Quality testing

ISO 3632-2-290 tests recorded that ShahJahan Saffron has Crocin results of 273.3

How to determine quality

The grading of saffron worldwide is performed through the Picrocrocin (flavour)Crocin (Color) and Safranal (aroma) content. This is completed in the laboratory by ISO professionals, the more in existence of the number of these 3 factors equals the higher the saffron quality. International Organization for Standardisation or ISO is a global confederation where national standard giving bodies set saffron classification based on the minimum prerequisites of each quality.

To get into the deeper examination to determine the 3 qualities,  laboratory tests are done and Certificates of Analysis can prove the findings, see below the video.

3 Easy ways to identify pure saffron

Picrocrocin - Flavour

If you were to put a saffron thread/strand into

your mouth and if it tastes sweet…. IT’s FAKE

Crocin - COLOUR

Put the saffron strands into water and wait for the colour to change

If it changes gradually and more strongly over time then its pure,

Otherwise; too fast and its likely to have dye in it or be low quality.

Safranal - AROMA

Pure saffron aroma is very interesting.

If u know what Honey smells like,

and you also know what hay smells like…

you would know what Real Saffron Aroma is.

It is literally a blend of Hay and Honey smells.

Certificate of Analysis

The best way to determine the quality of your Saffron is from the Certificate of Analysis which will show directly from the ISO 3632 examination at to exactly how strong the Saffron is and what additives have been added.

Our Laboratory results below show that we don’t add any additives and only grow pure and refined Saffron which has been hand picked and slowly dried at our Mashad farm. Our numbers tell you the whole truth.
